Focara Kitchen — Frequently Asked Questions
What is Focara Kitchen?
Focara Kitchen is a personal recipe box for iPhone and Android. It lets you save, organize, scale, and cook the recipes your household actually uses — imported from a link, scanned from a card or cookbook, or typed in — without the ads and long blog stories of recipe websites.
Does Focara have ads?
The free version shows ads. Focara Kitchen Pro removes every ad. Nothing else is locked behind Pro — the entire recipe box is free to use either way.
How much does Focara Kitchen Pro cost?
Pro is $0.99 per month or $5.99 per year (US pricing; your local price shows in the app). Its only job is to remove ads — every recipe feature is available for free.
Can I import recipes from a website or blog?
Yes. Paste a link and Focara imports the recipe from almost any recipe website, keeping the ingredients and steps and leaving the clutter behind. You can also snap a photo of a cookbook page, recipe card, or handwritten note and Focara reads it into clean ingredients and steps.
Where are my recipes stored?
Your recipe box lives on your own device, not on a company server. You can export your whole box anytime to keep your own copy.
Can I move my recipes to a new phone?
Your recipe box is part of your device's backup, so restoring that backup to a new phone brings your recipes along with it. You can also export your entire box at any time to keep a personal copy.
Can I change the number of servings?
Yes. Scale a recipe up or down and the ingredient amounts adjust automatically. You can save your version alongside the original, so you keep both the original recipe and the way you make it.
Can I switch between US and metric units?
Yes. Show amounts in US or metric, either for a single recipe or across the whole app. Dry ingredients convert to grams and liquids to milliliters.
Can I cook hands-free?
Cook Mode keeps the screen awake with large, readable steps, and Easy Read highlights the ingredients inside each step so a quick glance is enough when your hands are full. Tap a step's timer to start it — timers keep running even if you leave the recipe or close the app, and you can run several recipes at once.
Is there a shopping list?
Yes. Add a recipe's ingredients in one tap and duplicates merge automatically. The list sorts itself by store section — produce, dairy, meat, pantry — so it matches how you actually shop.
Can I plan meals?
Yes. Plan a meal and Focara builds the cooking timeline backward from your serve time, giving each dish its own start alarm so everything is ready at once. You can start cooking straight from the timeline.
Can I share a recipe with someone who doesn't have the app?
Yes. Send anyone a clean, ad-free web page of your recipe — no app required. The link shows the photo, ingredients, and steps, ready to cook from.
What languages does Focara support?
Focara Kitchen is fully localized in 34 languages. Recipe scanning works in most of them too — every script the phone's on-device text recognition can read.
Who makes Focara Kitchen?
Focara Kitchen is made by Olivia Renee Studio, LLC. The name "Focara" comes from an old word for hearth — the warm center of the home where food and family meet.
